I had several SCSI CDROM External cases only a couple years back and somewhere along the line I got rid of them. I did not want to put the drives in a full case. So I started hunting around and found I had a Beats Studio 3 Wireless headphone box that looked promising since they are extremely sturdy. So with the box, all its internals, a dremel and a box knife I made an external case. The box had 2 compartments and the drives are only Velcro'd in and the top of the box can be removed just like a shoe box if I need to get to the drive internals. Right now I have it hooked to an old PC powersupply with an on/off switch for power to both drives. I tested it with the SuperCard Pro copying several C64 and Amiga disks with no problems.

After having bought one of the Compaq external tape drives with the full height 5 1/4" drive bay I had another idea. It all started with a 1541 with the Alps drive that I stole the head from for a friend of a friend. Now that I had this shell what would I do with it?

It occurred to me that with some 3D printed case extensions I might be able to mount a 5.25" and 3.5" drive in the 1541 case. It still uses the metal frame inside which has been modified a bit. The 5.25"-to-3.5" adapter I bought is actually a bit taller than 1-5/8" so I need to mill it down a bit. Ignore the blue painters tape, it is just holding some of the 3D printed parts in place temporarily. I need to adjust the height of the 3D printed parts a bit and print out a new set in something other than black. Or. maybe paint the whole drive black?

Now imagine if the IEC connector on the SCP was working. I could put an IEC DIN socket on the back and use it as a dual 1541/1581 drive possibly? Wouldn't that be fun!

I stripped the guts ot of an old 20/40 Dat drive with the exception of the psu and fan.
This of course gives me a 12v/5v supply for the drives.
and 2 5.25 inch bays.
The Dat drive occupied 2 bays with its bulk.
I then had to fabricate a back panel to cover the space vacated by the centronics scsi connectors.
This was made in plastic ...and made a suitable mount point for the SCP+ board.
Sadly there is no easy way to mount this as there are no screw holes of mount points.
I settled on trapping it in a heath robinson affair made from pcb slide guides and white plastic fibre board ..
Thus it could now be mounted on the back-plate with the usb socket exposed to the outside.
The 2 drives chosen where a Sony 1.44mb 3.5" (drive 1) and a Teac 1.2mb 5.25" floppy drive (drive 0)
I only really use my SCP+ for archiving so these should do nicely.

So ..already owning a Kroflux unit which was built into a similar but flat case...and now my recently aquired SCP+ board I figure I am now covered for archiving most floppies I encounter.
Thanks Jim.

Hi everyone.

Here's my idea of casing the SuperCard Pro (SCP as I denote on the cover of my case)...

As others have mentioned, bare boards make me nervous too... so I came up with a custom designed 3D printed case for my SuperCard Pro.

I've been designing cases for other Commodore products for a while now, and as I recently purchased this awesome little board, felt it had a dire need for a case. Here's what I've come up with.

It's a case specifically dedicated to the SCP board itself. Because the board has no facilities in it's design to be screwed down (no screw holes in the board), I had to come up with a way of holding it firmly inside the case.

My solution was to build a little spider that sits on top of the board, allowing the lid to hold the board in place. The lid is pretty substantial (I tend to use 4mm thick case lids). Pretty happy with how it turned out. As with all my cases, in this application, I used 2M brass heatsets in the case walls, and 2M/6 black oxide screws to hold it together. There are openings in the sides of the case for the ports, in the lid for the floppy cable, and small openings in the lid to see the LED's blinking away.

Here are some photos of the finished product. Lemme know what you think of my vision...

Next I think I'm going to come up with a slim 5.25/3.5 combo case where this little case can clip onto to make a compact integrated package. When I get to that point, I'll post some more photos. For the time being, at least I'm happy my SuperCard Pro is safe.
