I am connecting to tty.sdf.org at 9600 and 57600 baud without any issues. Maybe this is a Strike Term issue? I use CCGMS for the C64 (9600 baud) and Novaterm for the Amiga.

You're likely right. I've also tried CCGMS and it works flawlessly but for me, this sort of thing in 40 col mode is very uncomfortable.
I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the title bar could be switched off in striketerm to help with this problem.
