I have gone through the threads here and trying to piece together a solution with not much luck. I can cause the system to answer but it always at 300 baud and there is nothing on the client side and anything typed on the client side does not appear on the BBS side.

Specs:
Apple IIgs
Apple Super Serial Card in Slot 2 (Set with DIP switches for 9600 baud 8N1) Triangle block set to modem
Using a custom, pin moveable connectors so I can experiment.

SSC Switches:

SW1: off off off on on on on
SW2: on on on on off on off

I am using a cable with pins 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,19,20 on the SSC to Modem the only difference is that the DSR(6) on modem is going to CD(8) on the SSC. I read that somewhere but do not remember where.

Init String: ATS0=1S2=128V0*D1&C1&S2&D2&Q0X1

The BBS will come up and it will connect, I will see nothing on the client. When disconnecting, the BBS then locks up and it shows everything on the wait screen except for the time and the upper right spot where the letters spin about is locked as well. I have to reboot the machine.

One time, one time only I had a terminal program on my iPhone and it connected at 9600 baud and I could type to the BBS from the phone. Only odd thing was every character in the response of what I was typing was duplicated, like hheelloo wwoorrlld. When I disconnected, the BBS locked up as described above. I have not been able to do this since.

1) Is there a pinout of the WiModem232 OLED? I skimmed through the manual to no avail.
2) Anyone have a cable, speed, and init string that works with GBBS?

I have purchased the GBBS manual from Apple Puget Sound Program Library Exchange. But as one would expect, the highest modem they reference is a US Robotics Courier 2400. But in the configuration of the BBS when you install it you can use a Hayes Smartmodem 9600 CTS/RTS (I Believe is the title for the CTS/RTS, I am not near the Apple at this time) But I am using this modem as my reference connected to the super serial card which is the question before when setting up the modem in the software.

I really want to get this to work, I feel so close, yet so far and I have been working on this almost a year.

Your help is greatly appreciate.

BTW: I updated to the latest firmware on the modem.

Okay so here's what's up: i'm trying to get a bbs running using the latest version of GBBS Pro (v2.3) at 2400 baud on my IIe with my WiModem232 Pro, and after some messing with the init string I was able to get it going using the string ATS0=1X1&C0&S0. I attempted to get it working with 9600 baud but was unable to and left the system alone for a few days, and when I came back to it I found i'm unable to get it working on 2400 baud at all. i'm able to connect to the wimodem, the screen on the wimodem itself shows it's connected, but the IIe freezes and when I close the connection the system remains frozen until I restart it. I've tried changing different settings on the wimodem, different init strings, doing a factory reset, reinstalling GBBS Pro from scratch but i'm still unable to get it going again and am at a bit of a loss of what to do next. Not sure if it will help but here are my wimodem settings:

I have the WiModem232 connected to the Super Serial Card (in slot 2) with one of those short gender changers. It worked when I got it at 300 baud. I was able to get it online, go to a couple of BBS’s. It was great! I ramped the speed up to 1200 baud successfully a few weeks ago.

Now I can get no response. I’m in ProTERM 3.1 and get nothing at all. No keys are even echoed back to the screen. I just wanted to get an AT command working.

The LED on the WiModem 232 seems normal: it powers up bluish, then a couple red blinks, then solid yellow.

The switches on the SSC are set for 1200 baud, 8N1, modem mode.

I see there is an “emergency mode” to reset the WiModem232 but was wondering if anyone had any ideas I could try first. Thanks for any help!

Hi,

received my two 232+OLEDs today, thanks!
Attempting to use it for inbound telnet to the old "Simplex BBS" software, I'm getting pretty far, but when nc'ing (netcat - so not telnet) to the BBS and then ctrl-C-ing netcat - which closes the connection and presumably sends TCP RST and all that - I see the BBS receiving a "NO CARRIER" string from the modem, and then the software goes into a loop where it says carrier was dropped, and then attempts to reset the modem - which again brings it to the "carrier was dropped" message, ad infinitum.

If I allow the BBS software itself to do the disconnect (timeout or whatnot), it manages just fine.

The OLED reads "Ready" when this happens.

I've tried all variants of AT&Dx, but haven't played much with other settings.

I find it hard to debug what's going on here, so I'm humbly(?) asking for some ideas of what to look for, and how. It could be a hardware (serial ports?), driver (OS/2 1.3 + Digi ClassicBoard serial card driver), software (Simplex for OS/2) or config problem.. I just don't know where to look.

Thanks again,

Hello!

Firstly I'd like to thank you for developing this wonderful little piece of hardware. My current setup is:

An Amiga 2000 w/ Term 4.8 and XEMLIBs emulating a VT340 and a baud rate of 9600.

and I'm using it to telnet to an ubuntu server.

When telnetting from my macbook, everything works perfectly including curses applications like vim, however when I'm telnetting from the Amiga, the normal CLI works just fine but curses applications are very janky. If I open a text file with more lines than the terminal has rows, everything is suddenly off by about 4 lines. The cursor won't move on every keystroke, resulting in the vim cursor moving but the buffer remaining stationary. If you then edit the buffer you're editing a line that's totally different from what you're seeing.

In attempting to triage this I've tried:

* without XEMLIBS (essentially emulating a VT220)
* varying baud rates
* setting the TERM environment variable to everything under the sun

none of which have seemed to resolve my issue which makes me think it might have something to do with the AT*T1 telnet translation itself? Does anyone have a similar setup or some words of advice?

Thanks for reading this far!

* without XEMLIBS (essentially emulating a VT220)
* varying baud rates
* setting the TERM environment variable to everything under the sun

none of which have seemed to resolve my issue which makes me think it might have something to do with the AT*T1 telnet translation itself? Does anyone have a similar setup or some words of advice?
