First, a big thank you for this great device! My two WiModem232 Pro units arrived a few days ago and I have been having a fun and largely successful time trying them out. Getting them connected to my Wi-Fi and updated to the latest firmware was straightforward. Initially I thought that having to use an external power supply might be an annoyance, but it is quite useful to be able to turn the WiModems and the computers on and off independently (e.g. for leaving a nullmodem connection active while the computers are powered off).

One of my main use cases is to provide wireless TCP/IP access for an Amiga, using a pair of WiModems in nullmodem mode (one on the Amiga and one on a Linux machine in another room). Using MiamiDX on the Amiga and Linux pppd on the server I was able to get a PPP connection working, with file transfers at 5-10 kbyte/s depending on the protocol, and seemingly flawless reliability. 115200 baud seems to be as fast as my A1200s will reliably go (in general, not just with the WiModem); one has a 30 MHz 68030 and the other a 50 MHz 68060, both with Fast RAM.

The other main use is to more conventionally "dial" a telnet connection using the WiModem. I had some problems in this mode with output from the remote machine (such as long file listings) sometimes being truncated. I wondered about changing some buffer or timing settings on the WiModem (note that I have set telnet mode on for this).

For anyone else using an Amiga, I should mention that I had problems with Amiga Term hanging at times (menus not responding), requiring powering off the WiModem to get it to wake up, but I think that's been resolved by switching from the stock serial.device to the 8n1.device replacement. With an Amiga-to-Amiga virtual nullmodem over the WiModems, I got ZModem file transfers of 9,000-10,000 chars/s, no errors.

I did have problems initially running the AT*UTC+12 command (it would just return ERROR, even though AT*TIME worked OK), but later on it started working, so I'm not sure what the problem was there. Initially I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to set my local time zone (UTC+13 during daylight time) but I found that the range of UTC offsets wasn't as limited as the product manual made out!

Speaking of the manual (and this might be beyond your control), but Google Search makes it very hard to find the Pro version of the PDF, which stymied my nullmodem setup efforts until I discovered the separate manual for the Pro (and that the Pro uses AT*CABLE instead of AT*NULLMODEM).

The other thing I wondered about is whether the WiModem should honour the default search domain as handed out by DHCP - it doesn't seem to on my home network and I have to enter the full domain name instead of just the hostname.

Thanks!

Howdy again.

I have found a minor annoyance. When I dial under Telix or under Putty, there is no linefeed after the carriage return. The result is that the response from the modem overwrites the dial sequence entered. Since I do a lot of free-hand dialing in terminal; it can get ugly and confusing.

If you have a mind to sometime in the future, would you please consider looking into it and tidying it up (assuming I'm not doing something incorrectly)?

First time setting up a WiModem232 Pro and it doesn't seem to want to save the router information. It acts the same under v1.60 and v1.70 (beta). I have tried setting the router and then powering off for a while. Likewise with button reset <10 seconds, button reset >10 seconds, AT&W, AT&F, etc. No set of conditions seem to get the router info to be saved.
When I initially set up the router, it works fine. The modem just doesn't seem to save the information and I have to manually set it back up each time I power back up or reset.
The SSID does have spaces; could that be a bug in the AT*NS[x],[password] setting?

Hi all

I've been a user fo the Wimodem232 for a few years now, but in the last couple of days the modem keeps resetting itself mid connection/usage. I'm seeing the following error each time in the terminal before it restarts itself.

I've tried firmware updating, resetting to factory, clearing phonebook entries but so far it's continuing to throw this error within less than a minute of connecting out.

I was wondering if anyone was able to help shed any light on the issue, experienced anything similar or has any thoughts on how to resolve it please?
Now, since the website is on maintenance i can't download the manual as per provided instructions so my question is : will the manual of the old version works i mean, the AT commands are the same ? Nothing complicated but setting up the wifi network, the baud rate , the telnet ? I think the basic AT commands "should" be the same and, if i'm correct, i do have a .pdf of the old manual so i'm set.

Hello all,

I use Proterm 3.1 with my Apple IIc and WiModem232 V2 @ 9600. I use the suggested initialization string and driver:

Generic Fixed Speed (RTS/CTS) driver
Init string: ATX1&C0&K1&S1
Apple //c Serial Port

The cable is this:
1 Handshake Out 20 DTR
2 Data Out 2 TxD
3 Ground 7 Gnd
4 Data In 3 RxD
5 Handshake In 6 DSR

Proterm 3.1 can initialize the modem upon startup successfully.

When I use Proterm's Dial function, Proterm does not recognize that the modem connected. I work around that by going on-line (solid-apple T) and dialing out using ATDS=X, where X is the index of the saved url. Interestingly enough, Proterm 3.1 does dial out if I use the Smartmodem 300 driver.

ZModem downloads start giving errors after the first time the computer saves the file to disk; Proterm reports that it was expecting one type of packet but got another (don't recall the exact packet types now). I need to cancel the download manually and power cycle the modem.

When I don't do a file transfer and use +++ to get the modem's attention, and then ATH to disconnect, I do not receive anything else from the modem. I can see the modem disconnected (through the OLED display), but I get no response from AT commands (although I also do see the modem gets the commands once again through the OLED display).

Any ideas of what could be wrong?

Thanks

Thanks

Hi everyone, I’m experimenting with EmPlant on my Amiga setup with a Vampire 68080 board. I was wondering if anyone has tried using EmPlant specifically to expand Fast RAM or chip RAM on these boards, and if there are any known compatibility issues with certain Kickstart versions or accelerator settings? Any tips or experiences would be really helpful!

Hey.

Been using the SCP for years on my Commodore, but recently wanted to start playing around with my Kaypro.

Starting off simple, I wanted to try backing up my Kaypro 2X boot disk to an SCP image, then write it out to a blank. Kind of a proof of concept for me to verify that this thing works for Kaypro disks.

Unfortunately I haven't had any success. Perhaps the SCP isn't compatible with Kaypro disks.... I dunno.

This is why I'm here. If it doesn't support it, then so be it... but if it should, then could you please provide me with the appropriate settings I should use to backup/restore the disk?

Thanks for your time.

Hey Jim,

Reaching out here to see if you can provide some sort of insight as to what the expectation level is for the Blingboard and the kepycap situation?

Everythings been pretty quiet since that whole Chris/Commodore debate and with Commodores now shipping, seems like there should be something said regarding your Blingboard campaign. The 'natives' ae getting restles, but to be fair, the backers deserve am update.

Best,

Today I was using my WiModem232 and after a at&w the LED went out.

I modified a few things prior to the at&w.

at*busy=in a call write now call back later
ats0=9
at&w

that caused the LED to go out.

I've tried to set the LED via at*led5, at*led0, at*led1, nothing is bring it back.

I did reboot and complete power cycle nothing helped it.

I use that LED to see who is trying to login to my system.

I don't see anyone else with this issue.
