Guide to file transfer
#1
Hi All,
Just received my WiModem232 Pro.
I have established a telnet connection between my windows PC and the Amiga 500.

What is the next step to send files from PC the Amiga?
I am reading about WiBridge but any download links I find are broken.

Can I actually use the 232Pro and telnet to do this?

Thanks,
Robert.

You need to be using terminal programs on both sides. From there you can select matching file transfer protocols and send files back and forth. I do this just about daily!

For the Amiga side I use either Ncomm, Term, or JR-Comm. Here are links to download Ncomm 3.06, and the activation keyfile:

https://aminet.net/package/comm/term/ncomm306
https://aminet.net/package/comm/term/NComm306PubKey

For the PC side I use ZOC8, HyperTerm, RealTerm, and others. I prefer ZOC8 (it is not free), which can be downloaded from here:

https://www.emtec.com/zoc/index.html

Whatever you use, they need support the file transfer protocol(s) that you want to use.

Many thx for your reply.
I have set up a connection with Putty on PC and ATalk on the A500.
Atalk seems to have the necessary commands but Putty seems very light. At least the commands are not obvious to me.
I will try the PC programs you suggest.

I have read that telnet may only transfer text files. I want to transfer lha files. Will this be possible?

Putty doesn't support standard file transfer protocols (Zmodem, Xmodem, Ymodem, etc.)

You can transfer ANY type of file. I transfer files between my PC and Amiga just about every day because I am currently writing Amiga software on the PC and testing it on real hardware.

Just make sure that you are using the same translation at both ends. Some PC terminals will default to Telnet for the connection protocol (which is different from a file transfer protocol). I use RAW mode because otherwise a translation is required which slows down file transfers. So in something like ZOC8 you need to set the mode to RAW. If you don't use RAW then you would need to switch the WiModem232 Pro to use Telnet translation (AT*T1 to turn translation on).

Great!.
Got a transfer running.
Baud set to 9600.
Transfer speed starts about 20kb/s but settles at 1kb/s.
Raw transfer.

Does that speed seem about right?

9600 baud is maximum of 960 bytes per second, but typically varies between 850 and 890 bytes per second with most systems due to overhead (code).

So, if you are seeing what is reported as 1KB/s (kilobytes not kilobits) then that is a bit exaggerated, but close.
