AI-THINKER_18129A open network - Carnifex - 07-04-2017

The WiModem sets up a wireless access point (AP) named AI-THINKER_18129A, I assume this is because you are using an ESP8266 as the core of the device.

With some testing I have concluded this is basically harmless, but I do not feel comfortable with an open vector like this.

In the next firmware update I would like to request this AP either be disabled or give us a way to configure it with a password.

Thank you

The name is there deliberately as a means of determining if the device is actually working. There is no way to access the module using it as there is no socket connection.

That is what my tests showed when I ran a port scanner on it. I can appreciate the utility of being able to see if it is working with a minimum of effort. I'd just feel better if I had a way to turn it off or or password protect it.

There is nothing to protect because you can't actually "connect" to it.
