RE: 1541 installation - NiallEd - 07-04-2025 Sorry but I have another question. In the instructions there are references to an Index Hole Sensor that needs to be installed to use the IHS Nibbler. I can see where such a sensor would go on my ALPS 1541 - there even appears to be a place for it on the motor control PCB on my Newtronics 1541 (yes it is still working - so far) but I have no idea of what parts I need to add one (or where to connect it on the VIA). Is there some information on this and/or is there a 1541 Index Hole Sensor kit I can buy? Many thanks RE: 1541 installation - admin - 07-07-2025 We use to make the IHS kit available, but I completely removed the support for it when v6.0 was released because it was too difficult for most people to install. Look at disk 2. You will find the IHS instructions there. RE: 1541 installation - NiallEd - 07-07-2025 ok. I would have been interested to get one but I understand your reasons for withdrawing it I can't see anything about it on either Disk 2 or Disk 1 Side 2. Would it be possible to share a schematic if I promise not to ask for support with it? Also, I cannot get any of the programs on Disk 2 to run. They seem to load ok but when I run them, the C64 just seems to hang. I have tried with a couple of C64's (running the CBM kernal) and a couple of 1541s (BIOS rev 5 I think). Is there something I am doing wrong? All the programs on Disk 1 seem to work fine (so far) apart from the Speed test but I can use Jani's cart for that RE: 1541 installation - admin - 07-08-2025 Actually, I see now that I even removed the information about the IHS on the v6.0 disks. I would have to find an old archive of my software, v5.0 or earlier I am guessing. The best bet if you want to use the IHS Nibbler is to use a 1571. However, I will tell you that the GCR Nibbler gives better results than the IHS Nibbler did... it was just a later/better program. What programs on disk 2 are you trying to run? RE: 1541 installation - NiallEd - 07-08-2025 Thanks, I have only just started 'playing' with the cards but it sounded like fun to fit an Index Hole Sensor into a 1541. Also nibtools has support for 1541 with Supercard+ Index Hole Sensor so that was another reason for wanting to do it. I do have a 1571 so I will give that a go. With regards to Disk 2, I was just experimenting to see what all the programs do. So far, the only programs that have worked on disk 2 are disk matcherv2 & sync checker. However, when I used sync checker to check disk 2, it showed an error 23 on track 5 and that might be causing some of the problems. I was using the disk that came with the card so I have written another disk 2 and will try all the programs again in the morning & post a complete list. Just for the record, I have run the test program on disk 1 and it says that both of my boards are working ok RE: 1541 installation - admin - 07-09-2025 Error 23 is a checksum error in the data block. This is often times caused by a dirty drive head. Are you periodically cleaning your drive head? Do you know if your disk drive is in good alignment? RE: 1541 installation - NiallEd - 07-09-2025 I guess the disk got corrupted somewhere in its journey from the USA to UK. That or I left one of my magnetised screwdrivers on it by mistake lol. I made a new disk using the D64 image from the website and made sure that it has no errors. I was wrong, it turns out that about half of the programs work. At least they look like they are working but I haven't had a chance to try them properly yet Here are the programs that will not work (for me at least): header reader imbedded track disk comparer 1/2 track format view bam sync maker repair track turbo speed load dms wp sensor test drive mon turbo 64 e700 mach-3 I didn't try programs like 'sync m/l' as I assumed they were being used by one of the above. Eg 'sync maker' would load 'sync m/l' but I'm only guessing One of the programs that did work made reference to a 'Top Secret Stuff' diskette so I looked that up - you sure did and do produce a lot of stuff RE: 1541 installation - admin - 07-09-2025 Many of those programs are sub-systems of the main programs. For example: e700, mach-3, and sync m/l are all assembly routines loaded by other programs. Yeah, I released more than 60 commercial programs for the C64. |
