I write them out in index mode (tried Splice as well which was the default), 79 tracks. All blue, no errors when writing to the 3.5 floppy. I've tried writing to a bunch of different floppies in the event I had a bad one.
I get errors like "Error Validating Disk" while booting or if looking at a disk in Workbench it says "DF0:BAD".

Dear Jim,

I was wondering if there was any chance to request a version of your utility that can be used to try everything possible to recover data from weak/damaged parts of magnetic media. Currently, I have pictures I want to restore from my teenage years, but they recover corrupted.

I use a program called HDD regenerator to recover such errors from dying hard disks before throwing out, and I was wondering if this type of recovery idea could be possible for disks as well?
I have used it with good success on older, dying hard drives on the PC, but there is noting I can find for AMIGA that recovers data.
A link to the product I use on the IBM compatible stuff is below to give you some more information on what I am talking about.

Hi. I've read that 2 revolutions in splice mode should be sufficient for any archiving, and even 1 should suffice.

However, in backing up my Amiga floppies to flux that need splice mode, I have found that 2 revolutions is never enough, and I must use 3. With 2 revolutions, I see bad sectors that always cross the index point. These bad sectors are showing up both in UAE and in HxC. With 3 revolutions, no problems.

I have sent 2rev images from an amigaDOS test disk from two different drives. Both drives were powered directly from the PSU and have had cleaning disk passes when dumping, including directly before I made these test dumps. Both of them show bad sectors only across the index point. I've done about 20 disks so far and they all exhibit this.

What is the explanation for this? Is there a correctable issue with my process, or should the rev requirement expectations need to be adjusted?

Hi All,

I'm having real trouble converting a .adf to a real disk, once I have tried to recover files.
I use the SCP > ADF mode to do recovery and set reties to 13 however, it normally only tries 5 or so times.
Anyway, I use WinUAE to read the image and get my files off it.
If I then use HxCFloppyEmulator_soft to convert .adf to .scp file.
Then I use the SCP v2.10 to Override File and pop on INDEX mode, Select Amiga and write the image back to a real disk.
It seems to be doing the correct thing and I have a nice blue two-tone image to say all is well, however, if I then try to re-image that disk as INDEX or SPLICE to an .adf file again, it fails every time and gives only read errors on every track.

This is the same drive I used to recover in the first place.
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be going wrong? or Is there any way to just dump from .adf image to the physical disk from the SCP hardware?
I cannot get this HxCFloppyEmulator software to work properly

A second question.
If I attach a .scp file to WinUAE and get the data off it and then format that image to create a new structure for writing without errors and copy my files back over, the .scp file is "unknown" to SCP v2.10 and unable to be used. Works fine in WinUAE though.

Thanks, everyone :-)

But when I wrote disk 1 back to a floppy it fails in my A600.
The original disk boots no problem ..but the copy does not .
I receive this error ' Monkey 2 has a read errpr on disk block 922'
Thinking it was perhaps a bad disk ..I tried again on 2 more disks.
The same error..?
I re-imaged disk 1 just in case this failed the first time...producing a bad image.
The results were the same.
Perhaps I'm doing something wrong..or perhaps the SCP does not overcome copy protection in this case.
Is the image bad every time..?
Has anyone else successfully archived this game ?
Any suggestions on the settings to make a 100% pure copy?
I think a Flux is what I use to create a Flux/SCP files at are around 25,000 KB in size.
I'm not sure about the Splice / Index.
In reading I think it sez to use Splice with 2 revolutions for NON-Protected and Index for copy protected disks?
Also, I'm going to leave the preservation checkbox on, any other suggestions?

I think I did successfully copy the Mirror Copier disk to an scp image. I used 3 and 4 revs, just to try and get the best image backup of it. I would have gone through with 5 revs, but when I try that I get the disk error "Read length > RAM capacity!". Any ideas? Is this okay or normal for a disk similar to this (being a copier/alignment disk)? I am backing this up form an Original disk too.
I ran the backup scp image in winuae and it appears to load the copier just fine as far as i've tested it. The other error that I get is if I try to create a adf image from the scp image I get the disk error "Image file is not for an Amiga Disk". I'm having success with other disks so far.
I have made scp's from my original Amiga disks, some are protected, some unprotected.

I use 2 x ALPS 3.5" drives, 84 tracks and the SCP images are created with Splice=5

Writing back the scp files results on 100% working disks, but all times, creating the scp's or writing the scp's to disk I get this colors on screen ....

Hi All,

Well it took me a year, due to time constraints and attention to detail mostly, but I have finally managed to complete archiving my own 25-30 year old Amiga disk collection of ~ 300 disks for the sake of posterity. Thanks to Jim's awesome SCP. 8-)

Here are a few pointers that I found useful in my workflow.

Known Good Drive and especially Power Supply.

Clean the Drive after EVERY disk
{*}Out of 340 disks I had > 90% success rate.

Amiga & SPLICE mode 3 Revs worked for ~60% of my disks.

5 Revs Worked for the remaining 30%

After each disk I immediatly convert to .adf in SCP. If I see errors I clean and try 5 Revs. If still errors check conversion in HxC. (I don't know why but in ~5% of cases HxC made a good .adf where SCP didn't).

Finally Load .adf into WinUAE and check with DiscSalv 4.0. If errors, mount the .scp in WinUAE and check. Sometimes the .scp will PASS ok but the .adf FAIL. So you just make an .adf in WinUAE using a normal imager and save that as your .adf. Worked great. And you know the .scp is GOOD. This happened for me in about 10% of cases.

I was actually amazed at the condition of my disks after 30 years. Most of the ones that had faulty sectors were the either disks I already had marked as faulty sectors, or were cheap brand disks. Nearly all the Commercial disks and Magazine Disks were 100%.

8-)

Have fun.

I hope this info helps someone with archiving their collection.
