Weird problem writing 'weak flux' pattern
#2
This is a bit of a black art because what is written is completely dependent on the disk drive electronics themselves.  Some drives can write weakbits just like normal data, while other drives add random amounts of extra time.  I found that I have to test the drive before writing to determine exactly how many bitcells are actually written when writing a weakbit pattern.

To make sure that you don't have some issue, you could use my editor/analyzer to write a flux pattern and then read it back to see the results.  This is how I was able to determine what was really going on with writing weakbits.
