Missing track identifier - LordCrass - 12-19-2013

I was trying to image a newly formatted 3.5" 1.44MB HD PC disk that I had dumped a couple of text files on just for testing. The image creation process seemed to go ok, using the Blind Mode, resulting in a 23MB image file, but writing it back failed.

When it got to track 54 (sorry, can't recall which head) it said "Missing track identifier! - Image file is corrupted!". Clicking OK made the window disappear, but the program locked up. None of the buttons would work, and the program had to be end-tasked. The disk was readable in my other floppy since the directory track and the track that had my small file on it made it ok, but if anything had been using track 54> would have been lost.

Tried again with the same disk after formatting and putting some files on, and it failed writing track 55 head 0 with the same error. Then tried writing this same image to another disk, same error at same spot.

So it looks like there's some issue with creating 1.44MB images. BTW, this is the beta 0.80 software.

Ok, I will look into the issue. What version of Windows are you using? How much physical memory does your PC have?

You have no problem making an image, only with writing it back? Did you try making a disk to disk copy?

It's Windows 7 64-bit with 16GB RAM. Haven't tried just a straight copy yet, I'll do that later today.

The problem seems to be with the image file though and not the writing routine. Using the analyzer on the file results in problems once you get to that track/head. That track and any above it simply don't show any new data in the MFM window, it continues to show what was on the last good track.

OK, thanks for the info. I will check it out.

Did you fix this issue with v0.90? I tried copying just disk-to-disk and it worked fine, so then I tried imaging again and it worked fine now, both with writing the image to disk or using it in the analyzer. This is a different disk I'm using, but previously I had tried 2 different disks and encountered the same problem.

Not that I have any protected PC disks to image (most of those are the old PC-Booter games), but I was just trying out different features until I can get a 5.25" drive for the C64 stuff.

Yes, it was fixed. If you look at the "Latest beta changes" thread, you can see what changes are made to each beta.

Ah yes, missed that. There's so many forums and subforums, it's easy to get lost around here!

Yeah, lots of different disk formats!!
